“When it’s January, it’s time for action!”
While there are many ways to welcome a new year, NMIMS has its own way of doing it in the beginning of a calendar year. Not sure how many professional B-schools have this kind of kick start (literally!) so soon in their scheme of things. We do things differently!
Cometh January, five big teams will be competing for ultimate glory – the Championship of the hugely successful NM Soccer League. This edition will be a continuation of our success story from last year, and the players will be looking to continue the rich legacy left by NMSL 2.0. Let’s have a look at the teams and how the story looks like so far …
NM Gangstars
Gangstars are the defending champions of NMSL and they will start as favourites. The star-studded team with the likes of big man Rohan Saramandal, Nikhil, Viresh and the scintillating forward Anand Mahadevan will fancy their chances. They will look to continue the ‘Gangstars spirit’ left by great players like Rohit, Tanuj Baru and Dhaval Kunte.
Whether or not these guys will be in the same team this year is anybody’s guess – have to wait till the auction ends to find out. Whatever the case might be, the expectations will be stacked up against Gangstars.
NM Dream Kickers
Missing the title by a whisker last year, Dream Kickers will be charged up for the third edition. With the likes of Nalin, Amaan, Doke, Manav it looked a pretty balanced side. With tight regulations on retentions, it will be interesting to see how much of the last year’s team is retained in this side – Rhea’s strategic brains will be put to test during the auctions.
NM Shooterzz
One of the players last year is sitting pretty in the owner’s chair for his team this year! Surely he would have an idea or two in his mind for this season.
A yet another balanced side with the composed defender Ishan Jha, Himanshu and the HR folks Gagandeep and Anshuman last year. One or two retentions might be expected from this lot. They should be looking to add more wins to their tally this year compared to last year’s two. The knowledge of Shrey will be useful in the auction for Shooterzz. This team will be keenly watched.
NM Rebellion Royals
A team that will miss the services of Nitish Mahajan and defender Anustup Sikdar. This makes the auction crucial for Rebellion Royals. A complete overhaul of the team cannot be ruled out. A lot of surprises can be expected and we will have to wait for some time to know what the exact team composition will look like for Royals.
Royals can be expected to play with absolutely no pressure and throw caution to the wind.
“Watch out for Royals!”
NM Krusherz
Krusherz had a disastrous second edition. The team would do well to remember their victory in first edition. They will be looking to regain lost pride in this third edition of the tournament.
The team has its own star players – Archie (Archisman), Yash, Neel Patel and Patwa. A few retentions in this team can surely be expected. The star presence notwithstanding, Krusherz will need to get its act together this year to improve on their goal scoring. With able leadership in the form of Raunak and Kirti, a turnaround can be expected for this weighty team. If they do kick where it counts, things will turn out well indeed!
