NMSL 3.0 Auctions – Part II

NM Shooterzz
Shooterzz is one team whose auctions largely depended on one man – Ishan Jha. He more or less ran the show entirely for the team. Ably supported by Gagan, Nikita and ex-Shooterzz bloke Shrey Arora who is the owner of the team this time around, this lot managed to put up a really decent show at the auctions. They seemed to operate with a definite plan in mind. Solid in defense, solid in approach, Jha decided whom to go for, and whom not to.
May be, the approach to game and life is pretty similar to most sportspersons (including yours truly!)

Many times mid-way through the auction, there were cries pointed towards Jha like ‘Bhai! He’s not a defender!’ He didn’t pay much heed to all that, such was the focus of this team towards their business. Needless to say, the strength of this team will be defense. If at all you belong to the other four teams, the message is clear against Shooterzz– break down this wall!
Look at their players they had retained-  Jha and Gagan. They started their auctions buying Yash (who can keep as well, but such a possibility appears unlikely in NMSL 3.0). They did get Pratham Abhyankar next, for $84 million, touted as the forward from first year. Shooterzz have two goalkeepers in Ishan and Rajat. And then they have a whole lot of defenders. Of course, all the slots will change when Shooterzz take on the field. Their post in facebook about the positions looks like this

Fair enough! Still, other teams got to break this wall of defense to beat Shooterzz – that will be the strength of this team. The team name ‘Shooterzz’ is just ironic on that note!

NM Rebellion Royals
Royals have set a record… They have made the biggest buy in the history of NM Soccer League. Ashish Chandorkar was sold to Royals for $284 million, when they edged out the rival team who bid $283 million – it was that close! Say what you want but one fact is certain – ‘Chando’ is worth the money, and Royals should be proud to have him. When NMSL 3.0 begins this January, all eyes will be on him.

Royals will easily retain him next year!

Of course, such luxuries come at a cost. Retaining Nalin and getting Chando left them with less than half the allocated funds of $100 million. Royals do have one recognized goalkeeper in Ramit, and they will look up to Rochak and Harshit to hit a few into the nets.

The RR team aggressively outbid Gangstars quite a few times. This includes the bids for Anish, Harshit and Essam. One good thing about this team is that they have more number of first years than second years; chances are that there might be a star player who could be the highest scorer for the team.

Royals may not have the best team to begin with, but they do have the most prized possession this year. With a lot of expectations on Chando, his performance will be crucial for Royals’ fortunes this season.

NM Dream Kickers
If there is one team that stood out in the auctions according to me, it is Dream Kickers. The entire team was built during the auctions and the squad looks fantastic. Have a look at this!

Looks like Rhea and Co. have played their cards right. This line up has only one person retained – Amaan Elahi. And yes, they have the second most expensive player of NMSL 3.0 – Vijayendra Singh Thakur, the $254 million midfielder. DK midfield looks formidable with Thakur, Baskar and Arka playing alongside Amaan. They have people who can finish as well. If junior Arka can do the job well, it looks like nothing can stop DK from running over opponents with this heavy line up. A lot will be expected out of Thakur though.

In terms of glamour and fanfare as well, it is Dream Kickers that comes out trumps. Sir Ashwin Doke has returned to the squad. Certainly, he will be trending once again when matches begin, and again if he scores or assists one into the net – #SirDoke!

What DK have done well is that they have managed to get a good mix of players in the team. Though there are more second years in this team, they have powerful juniors who can make a difference. Finally we have a team that looks good on paper and off it! Dream Kickers will start as one of the favourites this season and will look to better their position from last year. And they do have a person to retain for the next year as well, no prizes for guessing this one. More about it in 2016!

Forward to 2015 January and we are going to have our much awaited football festival in Jamnabhai Narsee grounds. Wait for the actions to begin. You must be knowledgeable enough to pick your favourite teams now!

Dream Kickers and Gangstars look quite menacing and might well begin as favourites. Gangstars have the rare chance to become the first team to retain the trophy and have enough firepower to do so. Shooterzz looks fairly balanced and will be a hard nut to crack, they might play the brand of Football that Spain plays – defensively poisonous. Krusherz will have a point to prove, considering their finish last year. Royals will be banking on Chando to do the star turn. The icon players will be looking to sign off in style. In all probabilities, it’s going to be one hell of a week in January.

Let’s football!
p.s. There’s no part three about the auctions.
Happy New Year!
