Why we like Chennai Super Kings!

If you are a CSK supporter, you may enjoy this post. If you are neutral, you can read this. If you support some other team, you can try to change after reading this. If you hate CSK or a MI supporter, go away! :)

I can go on and on about why I like CSK. But I will numer them so that I can keep adding! :D

1. No other team has a better cultural colour connect than CSK. Here's the proof! :)
Yellow Fellow!

For those who do not know him, he's Ramarajan, famous tamil actor of yesteryears, most famous movie being Karagaatakaran. And his yellow shirt and pattapatti trouser are a part of Tamil cinema history. Many a Sir Jadeja four will be cheered with his names or songs, time and again. Also used to mock under-performers.

2. We play well. We are simply better than the others.
TWO IPL wins, ONE Champions League title and I have lost count of the finals our team has played... okay, 5 finals. Also, the balance of the side is just amazing. We have never fielded a 'weak' or 'imbalanced' side so far. Moreover, CSK is a wonderful fielding side, setting high standards for the Indian Premier League and T20s overall.
"Kola kolaya mandhirikka
CSK adicha kathirikka"
Adhu!

3. Fair play.

Of course, 4 Fairplay awards won. CSK plays fair and in the spirit of the game. No one says 'Otha' or 'em see' (hindi swear, accepted in other parts of India) in this team. Dhoni takes care of that, which brings us to the fourth point of power...

4. Dhoni
Captain Cool, MSD! The Indian Captain handles CSK with such charisma and style that every match is a treat to watch. Whether Suresh Raina saying 'I am not sure of the catch' (2014 IPL edition, one of the first few matches), or Ashwin walking back to the pavilion for a run-out without the opposition appealing... CSK is the team to watch. Every single IPL. Every single tournament it plays.

"MS Dhoni is the first Indian Captain to win IPL"!

5. A very Indian star-studded team.
What makes CSK a heavy-weight? It's Indian stars. Ashwin, Dhoni, Jadeja, Raina, Vijay (except 2014), Badrinath (again, except 2014)... these players with a bulk of international experience add to the value of the already strong team.

Foreign players are cleverly picked - du Plessis, McCullum, Hussey (till 2013), Hilfenhaus, Bravo... the balance between bat and ball is intact. And yeah, we have a perennial wicketkeeper! So we don't need a reserve, worst case, we have McCullum!

6. Consistency.
The win-loss rate of CSK is astonishing! Overall rate till date is around 60%
Home record (MA Chidambaram stadium)
Win 26, loss 13. (66.67% success)

Except MI, against all other teams, CSK has a more than 50% win rate.
In 2014, out of the 5 wins so far, in 4 of them, Indians have won the Man-of-the-Match awards! Again, more reasons to cheer about. The dependency of CSK on foreign players, if any, is very very less (though we worshipped Mike Hussey!)

7. Records.
First IPL Team to play 100 matches - this is a no-brainer. So many finals!
Raina becomes the first player to play 100 matches in IPL. A true star, loyal to CSK!
Highest totals... Winner of both Orange Cap and Purple Cap in 2013. And what not! Refer this for more!

8. Theme Song!
Also various versions like "Namma thala Dhoni ku periya whistle adinga"

9. "Whistle podu" - again a connect, unique to Chennai!

10. Chidambaram Stadium
Very few stadiums in the world can boast of such a cricketing experience! Very knowledgeable crowd. Treats home side and opponents alike, cheers for every 4 and 6 and wicket. Allures kids and purists alike. It's got to be the MaC stadium.
"Chidambaram stadium
has smacked the Lords"

Until next time,
Whistle Podu!
