Why India has no Olympic Medals!

The title itself is a big debatable topic. I present here just my view why! Some reasons are always obvious!
It's a big argument! Yes! I agree! But then, there is something really wrong with India and the system!
As a common man, any one watching
the Olympics on television laments "We can't do it!"

"இந்தியா லாம் இப்படி விளையாட முடியாது! எவ்ளோ நல்ல பண்றா பாரு அவ!"

"Oh! We didn't even qualify???"

It's so easy to say this! As a sports person myself, it always hurts!

When we attain the age of 20, we usually hear... "அப்றோம் தம்பி... இன்ஜினியரிங் படிக்க போறியா???" 'Doctor?" Back abroad it's arts, business, law and science. Here, just A or B! Others are not worth a damn! Of course, some people do Commerce and BBA and hotel management and stuff, but they don't make it to the list for reasons unknown!

If that's the case, then where come SPORTS!?

Now stop yelling after seeing the Olympic games!

Studying Engineering or anything for that matter, really makes life difficult for a sports person. There's simply no time at all! We have time for Sports and Exams but there's nothing else! Come on, we are human beings too! There's something like entertainment too! Where's the balance???

Look at any school and there will be a weekend lecture about time management - "Morning wake up early and study; come to school and study; go home and have coffee; ONE HOUR see tv, then revise today's syllabus and sleep. You will sleep well" (Yeah, sure I will! You duffer!)

Thank God, I had played Chess for some 5 years when I heard this lecture!

It's also funny the quantum of build-up and hype they create for the 10th and 12th board exams. Shut it guys, they're not worth a damn! Even for those bookworms! After tenth, you join 11th. After 12th, you join college. It's as simple as that!

ஒண்ணு சொல்றேன் கேட்டுக்கோ! "Sports quotaக்கு exam முடிஞ்சா உடனே college admission! Results க்கு wait பண்ண வேண்டாம்! 600 marks can get you through!"

If only we had known all these at the age of 10, the scenario would have been different!!! But then, life's not as simple as that!

Let's take for example Cricket. How many Cricket grounds, good ones are available for practice even in a city like Chennai? :) And if at all there's one, can we DIVE there? If this is the case for the most popular Cricket, what about games like athletics??? Stuff like Pole vault might sound like swear words here! :)

Take football... Do we have a team? :) Now I think we have. But we have a team, that's all!

Chess is a surprise exception! Thankfully! :)

Regarding the sports in the Olympics, even the popular ones like Swimming, Rhythmic gymnastics, Sailing, Archery... do not DO NOT have world class infrastructure...

"The news channels are always funny. It's time people turn their attention to Sports channels! Especially the powerful ones!"

The situation in India leaves a lot to be desired...
