Sports persons have a very strong ego. City people have it too. They never say it out, but they all have it all the same!
Being chess players (this is the only field I know), we acquire by the habitual actions of the so-called "elite" company we get, some interesting peculiar character traits which can only be seen among chess circles.
1) Punctuality - When we have a round at 9 AM, we start brushing at 8.30 AM IST (outside India, there ARE no mornings! Only afternoon rounds!) and think about eating breakfast... only to sit on the board with a pack of biscuits!
2) Agility - Really! Quite often, we hear this - "You take bath first!" "Check if the water is hot (or cold, for that matter)" "What's the time?" "Yeah, I have to prepare!" "Okay, tomorrow." (I have stayed with fantastic roommates so far - and I am sure my roommates feel the same way too :P )
3) Cleanliness - Our rooms are always so neat - yeah, only when some one enters! Otherwise, no one enters, except us!
4) Sleep - At least here, no one can beat us! We can 'outperform' all the others! :)
5) "We are proud of these routines of our fantastic life that we often tend to show off these traits wherever we go!"
The guy
who lived in Chennai (guess who!) went to Vellore (about 3 hours from Chennai) for a week (some tournament). He had to stay in his dad’s
friend’s place. The uncle was around fifty years of age. The guy thought
Chennai people were more lazy and smarter. For some, both words are closely associated too! Bill Gates might say that he would hire a lazy person to do a difficult job, but one thing is for sure - lazy people don't do stuff at all! Anyway!
He entered as usual with high spirits. He wanted (yes, the same old mindset) to impress this uncle with his manners and crap! He came to the house in the evening and went off to sleep! Vellore guys, is a hot hot place. It was not like Chennai, Chennai is way better. Take it in 7:1 heat ratio, with 7 for Vellore. That was the guy's comparison. (Huge brains!). Immediately after entering, he switched ON his laptop, saved his game and came out to get fresh air. By this time, the uncle entered...
"Hi!", he said. "What happened to your game?"
"I got a walkover".
"Oh cool. Had dinner?"
***Mind voice*** (COOL??? He seems to do it so naturally! Where am I?)
"Yes uncle. Just had my dinner. I am going to sleep now. Well, we basically see a few videos and then sleep." :)
"Okay. Vellore is hot. You may take a bath in cold water and then sleep.!"
"Bath??? No way! We usually don't bath at all. Bathing once itself is a record. For the record, I DID bath today morning" (Did he say cold water?)

"Right. Good night!"

The guy went back to his laptop. He could still hear the uncle open the shower tap at 11 PM! That too after a day's work in a fully air-conditioned office! After sometime, the uncle enters the guy's room with something in his hand
"I will be going for cycling in the morning. Well, 6 AM. Here, take this bunch of keys. See you tomorrow night!"
The guy was simply blown away by this bolt from the blue.
*** Who goes for cycling? Goodness me, 6 AM? Every day? He went out to notice the brand new gear cycle parked by the side of the car. It looked fancily new.
He starts to wonder what's in store for him in the following days! Thinking so, he dozes off to sleep without switching off his laptop! Ah, the habits!
"Old habits die hard; newer ones never!"
